On June 11, 2026, Tucker Carlson praised the Islamic Republic of Iran for supposedly protecting Lebanon from Israel. Tucker claimed that Iran’s insistence on Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon as a condition for any U.S. deal proves Iran is the only country defending Lebanon — and specifically its Christians — from Israeli aggression.
The opposite is true.
Israel is in Lebanon fighting Hezbollah, Iran’s terrorist proxy, which actively threatens the very Christian-led government Tucker claims to be concerned about. That government wants Hezbollah gone. It is currently engaged in peace negotiations with Israel. Iran’s demand for Israeli withdrawal isn’t about protecting Lebanon but about protecting Hezbollah, and ensuring that Iran’s most important regional weapon keeps its stranglehold on the country.
Iran Built Hezbollah to Control Lebanon, Not Protect It
Iran created Hezbollah, funds it, arms it, and directs it. Hezbollah’s founding 1985 manifesto doesn’t call for protecting Lebanese Christians but for imposing Sharia law, which would dismantle the very constitutional order that reserves Lebanon’s presidency for a Maronite Christian. Hezbollah’s loyalty is to Tehran, full stop.
For decades, this arrangement has turned southern Lebanon into a launchpad for attacks on Israel, drawing repeated Israeli counterstrikes that devastate Lebanese civilians and infrastructure. Every war Lebanon has suffered — 2006, 2024, 2026 — was a direct result of this dynamic. Hundreds of thousands of Lebanese have been displaced. The economy has been gutted. And through it all, Iran has preserved Hezbollah’s arsenal and border presence, because that’s the point. Lebanese stability was never the goal.
Hezbollah has even murdered Lebanese leaders who got in the way. In 2005, it assassinated Prime Minister Rafic Hariri — the man who had ended Lebanon’s civil war — with a suicide truck bomb.
Lebanon’s Own Leaders Reject Iran’s “Protection”
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has accused Iran of using Lebanon as a “bargaining chip” in U.S. negotiations, saying the Lebanese people pay the price for Iranian interests. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has urged Iran to stop treating the south as a pawn. Lebanon has filed formal UN complaints against Iranian interference and has pushed for Hezbollah’s disarmament under state authority.

Hezbollah Uses Christian Villages as Human Shields — Then Blames Israel
Tucker’s framing of Israel as anti-Christian is malicious.
In March 2026, Hezbollah seized the Christian village of Qawzah and converted it into a rocket and anti-tank missile base targeting Israel. In a nearby village, they established military operations beneath a church. In El-Khiam, an Israeli operation uncovered a Hezbollah tunnel running directly under a church.
This is Hezbollah’s documented, deliberate playbook: embed weapons and fighters in Christian villages and churches, fire at Israeli civilians, wait for Israel to strike back, then tell the world Israel is massacring Christians. After October 7, 2023, Hezbollah declared solidarity with Hamas and positioned rocket launchers in a Christian village near the Israeli border, placing that community directly in the crossfire. When the 2020 Beirut Port explosion devastated predominantly Christian neighborhoods, Hezbollah blocked the investigation.
Hezbollah wins either way. If Israel doesn’t respond, the rockets keep flying. If Israel does respond, the village becomes a propaganda victory. It’s the same strategy Hamas perfected in Gaza — and it only works because Western media figures like Tucker amplify it eagerly.
