THE LIE

Israel dragged the United States into a war with Iran so it can destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and build the Third Temple.
THE TRUTH

Jews have long prayed for the Third Temple but are prohibited by Jewish law from building it today—and Israel has safeguarded Al-Aqsa for decades, not plotted its destruction.
BACKGROUND

On March 5, 2026, Tucker Carlson claimed Israel pushed the United States into war with Iran because Jews secretly want to destroy Al-Aqsa Mosque and build the Third Temple. (Tucker Carlson)

According to Tucker, Israel plans to destroy the mosque, blame Iran, and drag the U.S. into war to facilitate construction, with the global Jewish outreach group Chabad-Lubavitch allegedly orchestrating the plot. His evidence was uniform patches worn by some IDF soldiers calling for the Messiah. The Temple Mount is Judaism’s holiest site, mentioned many times throughout the Torah and biblical prophecies. It is where Abraham nearly sacrificed Isaac, Jacob had his ladder dream, and Solomon built the First Temple (~957 BCE). The Second Temple was built there in 516 BCE. (Grokipedia)

The Al-Aqsa Mosque was built in the 7th century, designated holy in part to consolidate Islamic authority amid rivalry with Mecca. Historically a flashpoint for violence, including attacks on Jews visiting the Western Wall. It is not mentioned in the Quran.
TRUTH EXPLAINED

It’s not a secret: There is no secret Jewish plot to build the Third Temple. For the past 2,000 years, it has been an open, central aspiration of the Jewish people—woven into their liturgy, daily prayers, rituals, fast days, blessings, weddings, holidays, and even home construction.

Judaism does not support war to rebuild the Temple: Chabad-Lubavitch, the Hasidic movement Tucker suggests is driving the war with Iran, has long stated that the Third Temple is expected in a messianic era of peace, not as a product of military conflict. (Chabad)

Building conditions don’t exist: Many Jewish authorities hold that the Temple can only be rebuilt under a Jewish king or prophet and when the majority of global Jewry reside in Israel—conditions not met today. (Times of Israel)

Blueprint uncertainty: Ezekiel’s vision of the Third Temple provides guidance, but interpretations vary widely and no accepted blueprint exists. (Bible Gateway), (Times of Israel)

Contradiction in Tucker’s narrative: Tucker often claims Israel is populated by secular, atheistic Europeans who are not authentic Jews, yet he also claims they are orchestrating a war to fulfill ancient Jewish prophecy—an internal contradiction. (X), (Tucker Carlson)

Israel protects Al-Aqsa: Since 1967, Israel has protected Al-Aqsa Mosque with strict security. Israel’s government even severely restricts Jewish access to the Temple Mount, Judaism’s holiest site, and has repeatedly arrested Jews for praying there. This is inconsistent with any plan to demolish it for a Jewish temple. (AJC), (INSS)

Ample opportunities, no action: Israel has had complete military control over Jerusalem during multiple conflicts since 1967, and has thus had many chances to destroy the mosque—yet it has not done so.

Christian irony: Jesus himself considered the Temple Mount holy and frequently visited the Second Temple. Tucker, a self-described Christian, seems more worried about a Jewish Temple than a mosque that teaches Quranic anti-Christian doctrine. (Richard Dawkins Foundation)
QUOTES

“The Messiah is ready to come now, we all must do something additional in the realm of goodness and kindness.” — Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, leader of Chabad-Lubavitch
TAKEAWAY

Tucker Carlson’s claim requires ignoring decades of Israeli protection of Al-Aqsa, millennia of Jewish theology, and the fact that Jewish law does not yet allow for the Third Temple’s construction. It also ignores the obvious Christian connection: Jesus himself considered the Temple Mount holy, taught there, and frequented the Second Temple—yet Tucker seems more outraged by a future Jewish Temple than by a mosque that teaches anti-Christian doctrine. To believe this theory, one must suspend reason, rewrite history, and treat soldiers’ uniform patches as evidence of global conspiracy.
